Plagiarism Policy

Purpose: This policy establishes the International Journal of Computational Intelligence in Digital Systems (IJCIDS)'s stance on plagiarism and outlines the procedures for addressing issues related to plagiarism. The aim is to maintain the integrity of the research record and uphold the highest standards of academic honesty and originality in published works.

1. Definition of Plagiarism:

  • Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the direct copying of textual, visual, or other content from a source without proper attribution. It also encompasses the use of ideas, frameworks, or research methodologies without giving adequate credit to the original creators.

2. Prevention:

  • Pre-submission Checks: Authors are encouraged to use plagiarism detection software to check their manuscripts before submission to ensure the originality of the content.
  • Editorial Screening: All submissions to IJCIDS undergo a preliminary screening for plagiarism using advanced plagiarism detection software. This is to ensure content originality and to detect possible cases of plagiarism.

3. Handling Plagiarism:

  • Initial Detection: If plagiarism is detected during the peer review process, the manuscript will be returned to the authors for revision or clarification.
  • Post-publication Detection: If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the journal will conduct a thorough investigation in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. Appropriate actions, such as issuing a correction, retraction, or expressing concern, will be taken based on the severity of the plagiarism.

4. Penalties for Plagiarism:

  • Minor Cases: Minor instances of plagiarism, such as the improper paraphrasing or inadequate citation of sources, may result in a request for manuscript revision to correct the issues.
  • Major Cases: In cases of substantial plagiarism, the manuscript may be rejected outright, and the author may be banned from submitting to the journal in the future. If the paper has been published, it may be formally retracted.

5. Appeals:

  • Authors have the right to appeal against plagiarism accusations. Appeals must be substantiated with evidence of originality or proper attribution. The editorial board will review the appeal and make a final decision.

6. Responsibilities of Authors:

  • Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are their own original work and that any use of previous work (either their own or others') is appropriately cited or quoted and permission obtained where necessary.

7. Guidance for Avoidance of Plagiarism:

  • The journal provides resources and guidelines on proper citation practices and how to avoid plagiarism. Authors are encouraged to review these resources to understand how to properly manage and attribute sources.

8. Updates to the Policy:

  • This policy is subject to periodic review and update to adapt to changing ethical standards and plagiarism detection technologies. Any amendments to the policy will be communicated through the journal’s website.
